Kalabaka
The Thessalian town at the foot of Meteora that serves as the main accommodation base for monastery visits.
Kalabaka (Καλαμπάκα — sometimes spelt Kalampaka) is the small town directly beneath the Meteora rock pillars. It is the closest accommodation base for monastery visits, with the train station, taxi rank and most hotels concentrated within 10 minutes' walk. A neighbouring village, Kastraki, sits even closer to the rocks but is much smaller.
